International Association for Comparative Medicine(国际比较医学学会)
Comparative Medicine, a distinct discipline of experimental medicine, plays a pivotal role in translational and biomedical research. Unlike Laboratory Animal Sciences which is focusing on providing and studying laboratory animals, the mission of Comparative Medicine is to use animal models as the study tool to investigate physiological and patho-physiological process of human diseases and discover the pathogenesis of human diseases. Since the proposal of the concept of Comparative Medicine in Middle Age, many universities and institutions have established departments or divisions for Comparative Medicine to train and educate numerous students. Although the Comparative Medicine has fostered the development of biomedicine, there is no Association or Society for scientists or veterinarians engaged in Comparative Medicine in the world.
In order to advance the development of Comparative Medicine in the world and facilitate the cooperation among scientists, The Institute of Laboratory Animal Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), together with some famous scientists and associations, propose to establish the International Association for Comparative Medicine (IACM). The mission of the association is to support the cooperation of Comparative Medicine among scientists in the world, build a platform of communication for scientists and veterinarians engaged in Comparative Medicine, and better understand the pathogenic mechanism of human and animal diseases.
The establishment of International Association for Comparative Medicine was announced in Beijing on 15:00-16:00 BJT, February 22,2019.
As co-founders, scientists from 15 countries and regions are supporting the establishment of IACM. Co-founders include scientists in Australia, China, England, France, German, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Ukraine, and United States of America.
Professor Qin Chuan, who is the director of Institute of Laboratory Animal Sciences, was nominated and elected as the first President of IACM on February 22, 2019. Professor Niu Haitao was elected as the first Secretary General of IACM. The permanent secretariat of IACM is located at Beijing, China.
